Reclaiming True Power: The Difference Between Power and Essence
In my work with clients, we often explore the concept of power—what it truly is and how we engage with it in our lives. One of the most common narratives people carry is the idea that someone can take their power or that they have given it away.
As I’ve worked with this more deeply, a profound insight has emerged:
When we speak about giving away our power, what we are often doing is giving away a piece of ourselves—our essence—in exchange for something we believe we need: safety, belonging, love, acceptance, validation. This is a deep and unconscious transaction, one we’ve been conditioned to make since childhood.
But this is not true power.
The Distinction: Power vs. Essence
🔹 Essence is the purest part of who we are—it is our energetic signature, our unique presence, our inner light. It is the deepest expression of our being.
🔹 Power, on the other hand, is our ability to create, manifest, and direct our energy with intention. It is not something that can be taken or given away. True power is sourced from within; it is the ability to stand in our creative force and shape our lives with clarity and confidence.
For too long, we have misconstrued essence with power.
Regarding our essence, we have spoken of this as our power. We have believed that by offering parts of our essence—dimming ourselves, shaping ourselves to fit expectations, or seeking external validation—our power has been taken. But instead, what has been taken is our essence.
True power is not connected to our essence. True power is about recognizing and fully claiming our ability to create our lives, to manifest, and to direct our energy with clarity and sovereignty.
Reclaiming Power Through Intrinsic Energy Work®
If you’ve ever felt like you’ve lost your power or given it away, it’s time to shift the focus from power to essence and clean up these energetic spaces.
Here are some steps using Intrinsic Energy Work® to help you separate essence from power, reclaim your essence, and step fully into your power:
1. Identify What You’ve Traded Your Essence For
Sit quietly and reflect on where you have shaped yourself, dimmed your light, or given away parts of your essence to gain acceptance, love, belonging, a sense of self, or security.
Ask yourself:
Where have I compromised myself to fit in?
Where have I silenced my truth to avoid conflict?
Where have I made myself smaller to feel safe?
2. Call Back Your Essence
Visualize a magnet pulling back your essence from wherever it is. As you call it back, feel it radiate out from your heart space, filling you with your true self.
Affirmation:
Say to yourself:"I call back all aspects of my essence that I have given away in exchange for love, safety, or validation. I am whole, I am complete, I am sovereign."
3. Strengthen Your True Power
Imagine standing firmly on the earth, feeling your energy root deeply into the ground while simultaneously reaching up to the expansive, creative force of the universe. See yourself as a conduit of creation. Affirm:"My power is mine. I am the creator of my reality. My power flows freely within me and from me."
Sit and reflect on what this means. How does it feel. Let this awareness become part of you. I always have students let it ripple through your physical awareness so that it isn't just a Spiritual or mental awareness but it becomes a whole being awareness.
4. Release Old Contracts, Patterns, & Beliefs
Many of us have unconscious agreements set in place to teach us to self-validate, but in all unaware learning, we learn a lesson by being challenged not to do it.
You can start the process of moving to validate yourself without the challenges by filling in with your essence regularly. You can also notice when you are making yourself smaller, being afraid to live your truth, or seeking someone to confirm that you are ok, and work to end those practices.
To deepen your healing, you can use this affirmation:
"I release all agreements, contracts, and beliefs that say I must give away my essence to be loved, accepted, or safe. I reclaim my full sovereignty now."
5. Integrate & Embody
Breathe deeply and see your essence as the full luminous force within you. Then welcome in all of your power to create and manifest what you desire.
Allow this new energy, insight, and information to ripple through your physical experience.
What do you notice?
Carry this feeling throughout your day. Let your choices reflect this new understanding of what it means to be fully you and truly powerful.
Aligning With Your Power
Power is not something we give away or lose—it is something we realign with. And in that alignment, we discover that we were never powerless to begin with.
✨ You are a creator. You are sovereign. You are whole. It’s time to reclaim what has always been yours. ✨

NB (Note Bottom from the olden days :-) - This is a shift in how I speak about and view our power. For me, this is the importance of continuing to do our work. There is always new information and insight coming in that changes how we relate to ourselves and the work around us. It shows up when I am ready, when you are ready, and when the Collective is ready, and I will always share it with you when I see it.
