Killing the Ego...???

Nope, no need to kill the ego.
I read a post the other day that spoke about killing the ego, and that was an immediate 'no' for me.
It just sounds so violent and ugly.
I like when this happens, though, because it gets me looking at why I have that reaction, how my information differs, and how it applies to our healing and growth.
So the post said something along the lines of this...
In order to reach oneness, the ego needs to be killed off, and as we ascend, more and more layers of the ego die until we ultimately become one, and our sense of individuality disappears.
That's definitely one phase of our healing and growth in some lifetime, but we, as a collective, have grown and evolved so much.
Especially over the last 20 years or so.
The need to kill the ego has the purpose of helping someone reach enlightenment or one-ness outside of their body.
But the Collective is asking us to do our work differently.
Rather than reach up to become one, we are being asked to go within to become one.
Rather than kill the ego, we are being asked to align the ego. Bring the ego into alignment with our Spirit. Work with and heal our ego of all the wounds and the lack and limit so that ego becomes an effective part of our Spiritual-selves.
Rather than our ego trying to control and rule or, conversely, shrink and hide, when we evolve and learn to align our ego with our Spirit, we create a whole individuated being who lives as Spirit.
Spirit becomes our lead and the other aspects of ourselves (Mind, Body. Emotions, Ego) become a part of the whole. Much like our body parts make up the body but do not or cannot function without the whole.
Our Spirit is the etheric, next level equivalent to our physical body - we just need to make the transition to seeking our Spirit as the whole and everything else as the parts that make up the whole.
In our evolved capacity as a Spiritual being, we can be the whole, be separate from the whole, and be a part of the whole all at the same time. Our limitation is removed.
So for me - the ego doesn't need to die; it needs love, attention, and healing so that it can evolve.
